simple ping from remote agent -


i have been looking around see if there simple, stand-alone(ish) agent/server setup allow ping launched host agent on it. when "ping," mean via icmp echo and/or tcp port check. have windows, linux, , aix systems such agent.

i set central server authentication can issue pings from device has 1 of these agents. primary use vpn testing, traffic can initiated device don't have access to.

it seems monitoring software has (e.g., zabbix) don't want go through pain of installing whole big piece of software functionality.

almost our aix , linux systems have perl installed, nice option if had write own. rather find "tried-and-true" though...

i didn't realize had saltstack installed on our servers (i'm network guy, not server guy). once talked 1 of server administrators, showed me how done using salt.
